Galactosemia

This is a group of three genetic disorders that affect how the body processes a simple sugar called galactose. The most severe form is due to a deficiency of the enzyme galactose phosphate uridyltransferase and can cause liver cirrhosis, enlarged liver, cataracts, and mental retardation in survivors.
