Amphi-Ionic Surfactant

Amphi-Ionic Surfactant is another term for Amphoteric Surfactant. An Amphoteric Surfactant refers to a surfactant that simultaneously carries both anionic and cationic hydrophilic groups. Its structure contains hermaphroditic ions which can form either a cation or anion depending on the ambient conditions, such as changes in pH. These surfactants are known for their stability against electrolytes, acids, alkalis, and hard water. They are rarely used alone and are often used in combination with other surfactants to improve solubility, reduce irritation, increase viscosity, and enhance foam stability.
