Synonyms or meaning of Elutriation

This is a process of separating a substance into various particle sizes by suspending them in a liquid (usually water) and allowing the particles to settle; the heavier particles are drawn from the bottom of the suspension and the lighter particles from one or more points above the bottom; also known as water sifting.
