Abirritant

An agent used to relieve irritation. An adjective implying calming, or as a noun denoting any substance or topical that provides relief. It’s also referred to as an anti-pruritic medication. These are treatments that suppress itchiness often linked with conditions like sunburns, allergies, eczema, psoriasis, chickenpox, fungal infections, insect bites and stings, and contact dermatitis. Abirritants comprise a broad group of medications from various classes with different mechanisms to manage itch. They may function either directly or indirectly to alleviate itch, and the proof of their effectiveness varies across classes.
