Adsorption
Synonyms or meaning of Adsorption
Adsorption is a process where molecules of a gas, liquid, or dissolved substance adhere to the surface of another substance. This results in a higher concentration of the molecules at the surface compared to the bulk. This phenomenon is commonly observed in various fields such as chemistry, environmental science, and pharmaceuticals.
The opposite of adsorption is desorption, where the adsorbed molecules are released from the surface back into the bulk phase. Both adsorption and desorption are critical processes in many scientific and industrial applications. For instance, in pharmaceuticals, adsorption can be used for drug delivery systems, while desorption can be important in the cleaning and sterilization of medical devices.
