“Aerobic Glycolysis” refers to the energy metabolism process that is often seen in tumor cells. This process involves a high rate of glycolysis coupled with some level of oxidative phosphorylation. Unlike normal cells, which efficiently produce energy through oxidative phosphorylation in the presence of oxygen, tumor cells tend to favor glycolysis, a phenomenon known as the “Warburg effect”. This metabolic pathway is less efficient but allows tumor cells to proliferate rapidly. It’s important to note that this process is poorly regulated in tumor cells.
