Aldehyde
Synonyms or meaning of Aldehyde
An aldehyde is a type of organic compound that contains a carbonyl group, which consists of a carbon atom double-bonded to an oxygen atom (C=O). In aldehydes, the carbonyl group is also single-bonded to at least one hydrogen atom. This gives aldehydes the general formula RCHO, where R can be any alkyl or aryl group. An example of an aldehyde is formaldehyde (HCHO), where the carbonyl carbon is bonded to two hydrogen atoms.
