Anal Verge

Definition of Anal Verge from the PharmacyDictionary.in

Anal Verge

The Anal Verge refers to the area where the anal canal joins the perianal skin. It is characterized by puckered skin at the anal orifice. This region marks the transition from the internal structures of the digestive system to the external skin surface. It plays a crucial role in the function of the anal canal and is often a focus in the diagnosis and treatment of various anorectal conditions.

The Anal Verge, also known as the anal margin or anus, is the lower edge of the anal canal that marks the junction of the anal canal and the external hair-bearing skin.

It is an opening surrounded by the perianal skin overlying the subcutaneous external anal sphincter (EAS) at the most distal portion of the anal canal.

This part of the anal region consists of a band of squamous epithelial tissue which lacks hair follicles and extends from the intersphincteric groove to the perianal skin.
