Extraction, Liquid-Liquid

A process where one immiscible liquid is thoroughly mixed with another to remove a component that is (or is altered to be) more soluble in the extracting solvent. For example, morphine in ether can be extracted using water acidified with hydrochloric acid because morphine hydrochloride is more soluble in the aqueous phase.
