Glyceraldehyde

This is an aldose, a type of sugar, derived from the oxidation of glycerol. It is isomeric with dihydroxyacetone. The three-phosphate derivatives of glyceraldehyde are intermediates in the metabolism of glucose in both the Embden-Meyerhof and pentose phosphate pathways.
