Menalgia

This term refers to pain that accompanies menstruation.

Menalgia, also commonly known as dysmenorrhea, refers to the pain that some women and girls experience during their menstrual cycle. This pain is usually felt in the lower abdomen or back.

There are two types of dysmenorrhea: primary and secondary:

Primary dysmenorrhea is the most common type and is characterized by pain in the lower abdomen and lower back that begins 1-2 days before menstruation and lasts from 2 to 4 days. There is no underlying problem that is causing the pain.

Secondary dysmenorrhea is pain caused by a disorder in the woman’s reproductive organs, such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, uterine fibroids, or infection.

Pain during menstruation is relatively common, and it can range from mild to severe. It can be accompanied by other symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and even headache.
